Careers for MIS graduates

The bridge between the business and the tech team. Understands a business problem and turns it into clear requirements developers can build.

Closer to the technology than a BA. Designs how a system works inside: data, screens and integration with other systems.

Studies how work actually gets done step by step, finds waste and delays, and redesigns processes, often automating them. A very close fit to MIS studies.

Works with an app or digital platform team: analyses user behaviour with data, ranks priorities and helps the product owner decide what to build next.

Turns raw data into decisions. Builds the reports and dashboards management relies on.

Builds the pipelines that move data from systems into the data warehouse so analysts find it clean and ready. More programming than data analysis.

Makes sure the organisation's data is correct, consistent, owned and protected under regulation. In strong demand in Saudi Arabia under national data management requirements.

Writes and tunes queries and stored procedures; with experience, keeps databases running, fast, secure and backed up.

Implements ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle and Odoo and configures them to fit how the company works. One of the best-fitting roles for MIS graduates.

Runs the customer relationship system such as Salesforce or Dynamics 365: users, fields, automation and reports, so sales and service teams work smoothly.

Keeps company applications (such as ERP and internal portals) running day to day: takes tickets, digs into data or settings, then fixes or escalates. One of the most common first jobs for MIS graduates.

The first line of help for staff: devices, accounts, email, printers and the network. It teaches you all of IT fast and opens doors to networks, systems and security.

Runs the company network: devices, links between branches, internet access and firewalls.

Runs the company's servers and services: accounts, email, updates, backups and virtual machines on Windows and Linux.

Builds and runs services on Azure, AWS or Google Cloud: servers, networks, permissions and cost. Demand is rising as providers open data centres in Saudi Arabia.

Watches security alerts in the security operations centre, tells false alarms from real attacks and starts the response.

Controls who can access what: creates accounts, grants permissions by role, reviews them regularly and stops unneeded access piling up. A great mix of business and security.

Checks that systems follow regulations and standards and that IT risk is under control. A natural MIS fit because it blends business and technology.

Helps the organisation comply with regulation such as the Personal Data Protection Law and national cybersecurity controls: maps requirements, measures gaps and follows them to closure.

Nobody becomes a project manager on day one: you start as a project coordinator or PMO analyst tracking schedules, risks and reports, and with experience you lead your own projects.

Works at a consultancy across different clients: analyses their current state, compares it to good practice and prepares presentations and recommendations. Fast learning and high pressure; a common route for MIS graduates.

Makes sure the system works before users get it: writes test cases from requirements, tests and logs defects. It needs an analytical mind more than coding, so it suits MIS graduates.

Builds apps, forms and automation for departments with Power Platform or RPA tools instead of traditional coding: approval requests, e-forms and bots that key in data. It combines process understanding with technology, the heart of MIS.
