ERP careers and AI in ERP
ERP is one of the best-fitting fields for MIS graduates in particular, because it needs both business understanding (accounting, purchasing, inventory) and technical understanding. The main roles:
| Role | What they do | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Functional consultant | Understands a department's processes, leads fit-gap workshops, configures the module and trains users. | Business knowledge + communication |
| Technical consultant | Builds customisations, integrations and reports, and migrates data. | Programming + SQL |
| ERP analyst / key user | In-house: supports colleagues, refines settings and builds reports. | The system + the business |
| ERP project manager | Leads the plan, budget, team and change management. | Project management + experience |
AI inside ERP is now part of modern systems rather than a separate add-on: forecasting inventory demand, reading vendor invoices from PDFs and entering them automatically, suggesting bank reconciliation matches, and assistants answering questions like “which customer pays latest?”. Your job as an MIS graduate is knowing where these features help, and checking their results.
