Cloud careers, certifications and where to start
Cloud is now part of most tech jobs, not just a separate speciality. These roles suit MIS graduates especially well:
| Cloud analyst / consultant | Assesses systems, models costs and plans migrations. Blends business and tech. |
| FinOps specialist | Tracks and trims cloud spend. In demand and a great fit for an MIS background. |
| Junior cloud engineer | Builds and runs environments. Needs deeper networking and Linux skills. |
| Cloud security and governance | Permissions, compliance and audits of cloud environments. |
Foundational certifications need no coding background and show you understand the concepts, pricing and security. Pick one provider to start with (usually whichever is common at the companies you're targeting):
Practise for free: every provider has a free tier or student credits. Start small: host a personal site on object storage, or a small managed database linked to a report. Above all, set a budget alert on day one so a bill never surprises you.
